The Liga Futve or First Division of Venezuela is the highest division of soccer in Venezuela . Its organization depends on the Venezuelan Football Federation. The competition was founded in 1921 and was listed as an amateur during its early days. He did not make the leap to professionalism until 1957, due to the growth of the sport in the country and the inauguration of the Olympic Stadium of the Central University of Venezuela.

Throughout history, the tournament has been rocked by organizational or financial problems. After a golden age in 1980, with teams representing the vast majority of the nation's territories, a crisis came. The constant changes in the competition format and the abandonment or transfer of clubs during the course of the season caused the public to gradually move away from football.

For the 2021 edition, the Futve League is divided into two phases. The first divides the 21 teams into three groups: Western, Central and Eastern. The top four finishers of each advance to the next round. Clubs with the fewest points are candidates for relegation. In the second, known as the final hexagonal, the champion and those who qualify for the continental tournaments are decided. In group A are the first two of each group and they face each other to be proclaimed champion of Venezuela. In group B, the third and fourth classified fight for two places for the Copa Libertadores. Regarding the demotion, the points of the first phase are taken into account. The last two classified with the fewest points are directly descended. The last one that has obtained a greater score disputes a playoff for the permanence against the second of the lower division.

Since the creation of the competition, more than 30 different clubs have been crowned as champions of Venezuela. Caracas has been able to win the league more than ten times. A difficult milestone to achieve considering that his first wound was achieved in 1992.

Las Américas FC was the champion of the inaugural edition of Liga Futve . Practically no information is known about the development of that tournament. Besides the winner, the only thing known is that the runner-up was Centro Atlético Sport Club .The Zamora FC was the great dominator of the competition in the 2010s. The team located in Barinas achieved its first three national championships in that period: 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2016. The entity had to be re-founded in 2002 after Atlético Zamora Fútbol Club, its predecessor, was forced to the disappearance due to financial problems.
