The Coppa Italia is a direct elimination tournament that takes place every year between the best teams in the country. The champion gets access to the Supercoppa Italia and the Europa League . The competition began to be played in 1922 with 38 participating teams. At first it was considered as a minor tournament, which caused the big clubs to decide to give up playing their matches.
